Sukkur Strikers edge Quetta Qurbans as Karachi Kids dominate in PTPL 2025

The UBL Ameen Pakistan Tape-Ball Premier League (PTPL) 2025 continues to gain momentum with exciting matches, close finishes, and strong fan engagement at Naya Nazimabad Stadium, Karachi.

The tournament is being organized by Badar Expo Solutions in collaboration with the Pakistan Tape-Ball Foundation (PTBF).

In one of the most competitive encounters so far, Sukkur Strikers edged past Quetta Qurbans by just three runs, registering a narrow but memorable victory.

The match showcased high-intensity tape-ball cricket, keeping fans on the edge of their seats until the final ball.

Wajid Meo of Sukkur Strikers was named Player of the Match for his outstanding performance.

His explosive hitting, quick running between the wickets, and match-defining moments played a key role in his team’s victory.

Meanwhile, Karachi Kids delivered a dominant performance against Larkana Warriors, securing a commanding 64-run win.

The side displayed excellent teamwork, sharp strategy, and disciplined execution throughout the contest.

Muzamil Kamoki from Karachi Kids was awarded Player of the Match for his exceptional display, which included powerful strokes and crucial contributions that turned the game firmly in his team’s favour.

Beyond the on-field action, the league has also focused on fan engagement.

PTPL Chairman Zohair Naseer was seen distributing prizes, shirts and balls among spectators during the Karachi Kids vs Larkana Warriors match, further energising the crowd and highlighting the league’s commitment to promoting tape-ball cricket culture.

Looking ahead, two exciting fixtures are scheduled for today, December 24.

In Match Five, Quetta Qurbans will take on Peshawar Shaheens, followed by Match Six featuring Lahore Lions against Rawalpindi Royals.

Both matches will be played at Naya Nazimabad Stadium, promising another evening of thrilling cricket.

All PTPL 2025 matches are being broadcast live on Geo Super and BTV, while fans can also stream the action on YouTube via Badar Television.

International viewers can follow the tournament live on YouTube as well.

While digital streaming is also available on MYCO.

In a unique initiative, Badar Expo Solutions has introduced a performance-based reward scheme in partnership with GFS Builders & Developers.

Under this programme, any player who hits three consecutive sixes or claims a hat-trick in a single match will be rewarded with a plot file from GFS Builders & Developers.

The initiative aims to recognise exceptional performances and encourage competitive cricket throughout the tournament.

Spectators and visitors also have a chance to win free plot files by registering through the Badar Expo application.

Registered entries will be shortlisted and processed through a lucky draw system, with selected participants receiving plot files.

In addition to plots, attendees can win other high-value prizes, including the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max, bikes, and more, making PTPL 2025 not only a cricketing spectacle but also a rewarding experience for fans.

With close contests, standout performances, and innovative incentives, the Pakistan Tape-Ball Premier League 2025 is quickly establishing itself as the most exciting tape-ball tournaments in the country.

Pakistan Television (PTV) and Khan Research Laboratories (KRL) will face off in the final of the President’s Cup Grade-I One-Day tournament after impressive victories in the semi-finals at the National Bank Stadium, Karachi.

Fans can expect a closely contested battle as both teams aim to lift the prestigious trophy.

Cricket fans in Pakistan can watch the final live on Tapmad, while international viewers can stream the match on the PCB’s YouTube channel.

KRL booked their place in the final following a narrow 13-run victory against Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited in the second semi-final.

Disciplined bowling, including a fifer from Arshad Iqbal, and crucial batting contributions from Saad Baig (77), Waqar Ahmed (94), and Ahmed Hassan (43) proved decisive for the side, setting up a final clash with PTV.

The tournament, which began earlier this month in Karachi, features eight departmental teams competing for a total prize pot of PKR 8.7 million.

The 31-match event ran from December 8 to 25 across five venues, with defending champions State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) attempting to retain their title.

Shadab Khan set for return as PCB prepares preliminary World Cup 2026 squad

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to announce the national squad for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in the first week of January, as selectors intensify discussions ahead of international commitments, according to The Express Tribune.

Pakistan are scheduled to play a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka on January 7, 9 and 11 in Dambulla.

The series has gained added importance as it comes at the time when Pakistan must submit its preliminary squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to the report, the selection committee is holding detailed meetings to strike the right balance between experience, fitness, and workload management.

One major development expected from these talks is the return of all-rounder Shadab Khan, who is close to making a comeback after overcoming recent fitness issues.

Shadab has shown encouraging form in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL), and his all-round skills are seen as vital for Pakistan’s T20 plans, especially with the World Cup approaching.

Shadab has played three matches in the BBL so far, scoring 75 runs at an average of 37.50 with a strike rate of 136.36, while also taking six wickets at an average of 15.50 and an economy rate of 8.45.

Several senior players, including Shaheen Shah Afridi, Babar Azam, Haris Rauf, Mohammad Rizwan and Hasan Ali, have been granted No Objection Certificates (NOCs) to complete their full BBL commitments.

Their extended stay in Australia has prompted selectors to look at younger options for the Sri Lanka series.

Emerging players such as Abdul Samad and Maaz Sadaqat are among those being considered, along with other domestic performers who have delivered consistent displays in recent months.

The tour is expected to provide an opportunity to test Pakistan’s bench strength and expand the T20 talent pool.

Beyond the Sri Lanka series, the PCB faces a crucial deadline, as Pakistan must submit a provisional squad for the T20 World Cup before January 6.

While changes can be made until February 1, the initial list will set the foundation for Pakistan’s World Cup preparations.

While hosts India and Sri Lanka have already named their squads for the global event.

The Sri Lanka tour is therefore being viewed as a key step in shaping Pakistan’s World Cup combination, particularly in identifying dependable all-rounders and backup options.

As selection meetings continue and decisions draw closer, an official squad announcement is expected in the coming days.

PSL expansion attracts bidders from five continents

The Pakistan Cricket Board has received an unprecedented response for the sale of two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises, with 12 parties submitting formal bids from five continents, including the United States, Australia, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, and Pakistan, according to PCB press release.

This highlights the PSL’s growing global footprint and its appeal as a major sporting and investment platform.

The PCB stated that the results of this initial bidding phase will be announced on December 27.

In the next stage, technically qualified bidders will have the chance to acquire the two new franchises through an open competitive bidding process.

The PSL team auction is scheduled to take place on January 8 at the Islamabad Convention Centre.

The PCB reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent, competitive, and internationally standard process, aiming to further expand the PSL and strengthen its position as a globally recognized T20 league.

The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier announced that the registration process for foreign players ahead of the 11th edition of the HBL Pakistan Super League has officially begun.

Agents and independent players are encouraged to complete their registration before 20 January, 2026 deadline to be included in the Player Pool.

Both agents and independent players can complete the registration process through the designated link provided by the board.

The 11th edition of the HBL PSL is scheduled to take place from March 26 to May 3, 2026.

Since its launch in 2016, the league has continued to grow in scale and popularity, attracting top talent from around the world.

Asad Shah, Usama Ali headline top players to watch in PTPL 2025

Asad Shah, widely known as AB 360, is set to be one of the biggest attractions of the UBL Ameen Pakistan Tape-Ball Premier League (PTPL) 2025 as he leads Karachi Kids in the platinum category.

A powerful all-rounder and right-hand batter, Asad has built a reputation for explosive stroke play and impactful spells with the ball, making him a match-winner in pressure situations.

Another Karachi Kids batter expected to light up the tournament is Usama Ali, popularly called Usama Sialkot.

A right-hand batter known for clean hitting and consistency, Usama adds stability to Karachi Kids’ batting lineup and remains a key option in crunch moments.

Zain Ali, nicknamed Zain Lefty, brings versatility to Karachi Kids with his left-hand batting and left-arm fast bowling.

The platinum-category player from Sialkot is regarded as a dynamic all-round option who can change the momentum of a match within a few overs.

Hyderabad Hunters will bank heavily on their captain Haris Ali Khan, a platinum-category batsman from Karachi. Known for his leadership and aggressive batting approach, Haris sets the tone at the top and remains central to Hyderabad Hunters’ title ambitions.

From Quetta Qurbans, captain M Hamza Baig, also known as HB, stands out as a technically sound left-hand batsman in the platinum category.

His calm presence and ability to strike hard make him a crucial asset in high-pressure games.

Larkana Warriors’ Malik Junaid, nicknamed Juni, is another platinum-category batter to watch.

A stylish right-hand batsman from Karachi, Junaid is known for his aggressive shot selection and ability to accelerate.

Peshawar Shaheens will look towards their captain Bahadur Ali, famously called Bahadur Lefty, to lead from the front.

The platinum-category left-hand batsman combines experience with power-hitting, making him one of the most reliable performers in tape-ball cricket.

The PTPL 2025 is being organized by Badar Expo Solutions in collaboration with the Pakistan Tape-Ball Foundation (PTBF) and will feature free entry for all fans.

Matches will be broadcast live on Geo Super and BTV, while fans can also stream the action on YouTube via Badar Television.

International viewers can follow all matches live on YouTube.

Spectators and players attending the tournament will also have the opportunity to win free plot files, as organizers introduce performance-based and registration-based reward initiatives.

Under a partnership with GFS Builders & Developers, any player who hits three consecutive sixes or claims a hat-trick in a single match will receive a plot file.

Spectators can participate by registering through the Badar Expo application, with selected participants winning plot files through a lucky draw.

Other prizes include the latest iPhone 17 Pro Max, bikes, and additional rewards.

A total of eight teams will compete in PTPL 2025: Hyderabad Hunters, Karachi Kids, Lahore Lions, Larkana Warriors, Peshawar Shaheens, Quetta Qurbans, Rawalpindi Royals, and Sukkur Strikers.

‘That single Tauseef took was actually the six,’ Javed Miandad recalls iconic six against india

Javed Miandad recalled one of the most iconic moments in cricket history, saying that the crucial single taken by Tauseef Ahmed effectively set up his famous last-ball six against India.

Speaking about the Austral-Asia Cup final of 1985–86 at the PTPL opening ceremony in Karachi on Sunday, which included Javed Miandad and off-spinner Tauseef Ahmed, Tauseef said the plan was always clear when Pakistan needed five runs off the final two balls with only one wicket remaining.

He revealed that the sole focus was to get Miandad on strike at any cost.

Miandad later explained how decisive that moment was, saying the single taken by Tauseef Ahmed “was actually the six,” proving to be the turning point and highlighting the importance of presence of mind under pressure.

Tauseef recalled that Miandad had given clear instructions in the middle.

“Miandad had told us to stop the ball and run immediately, no matter where it went,” Tauseef said.

He added that the discussion between the batters was straightforward.

Whether a single was available or not, it had to be taken quickly so Miandad could face the final delivery.

“Had Zulqarnain not been dismissed, Miandad would not have had two balls to work with,” said Tauseef.

Miandad also guided him to stay at the crease, take the calculated risk for a run, and trust the plan.

Miandad also advised the younger generation to play smartly, stay calm, and then play the ball wisely.

The moment is etched in cricket history as Miandad struck a towering six off Chetan Sharma on the final ball to seal the title for Pakistan.

Javed said the memory remains special because it came against India and under immense pressure.

The Austral-Asia Cup final continues to be regarded as one of Pakistan cricket’s most cherished victories, with Miandad’s six symbolising composure, trust, and teamwork at the highest level.

“Tauseef Ahmed’s single and Javed Miandad’s six,” as fans often say, together they created a timeless moment that still lives on in cricket history.

‘Indian players hurt by handshake controversy,’ says Javed Miandad

Former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad, while criticising India’s refusal to shake hands with Pakistani players since the Asia Cup 2025, said that Indian players themselves are hurt by the handshake controversy, calling the act disappointing and against the spirit of sports.

Miandad said that when people saw Indian players refusing to shake hands, it did not leave a good impression.

He questioned the intent behind such actions and said that if there were deep issues, then coming to play cricket made little sense.

“This is all the doing of their Prime Minister,” said Javed Miandad.

He added that these actions have no place on a cricket field.

“This kind of behaviour comes from political pressure, not from the players,” Miandad said.

“Cricket should never be mixed with politics.”

He further pointed out that Indian players are affected by such situations as well, as they want to play the game freely and compete in a healthy sporting environment.

“Indian cricketers want to play cricket,” Miandad added.

“They are hurt by these things too. Sports should be treated as sports, and politics should stay out of it.”

For the unversed, Pakistan and India have not shaken hands during their recent encounters since the Asia Cup 2025, when Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with the Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha following the military tensions between the two nations, which disrupted both the IPL and PSL in May.

Pakistan U-19 crush India U-19 by 191 runs in Asia Cup Final

Pakistan U-19 triumphed in the final of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup, defeating India U-19 by a massive margin of 191 runs.

Pakistan posted an impressive total of 347/8 in their 50 overs, with Sameer Minhas playing a remarkable knock of 172 runs off 113 balls.

His outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award, and he was also named Player of the Tournament for his consistent brilliance throughout the competition.

India, chasing a daunting target, struggled against Pakistan’s bowlers and were all out for just 156 runs in 26.2 overs.

Deepesh Devendran top-scored for India with a 36 off 16 balls, but it wasn’t enough to mount a serious challenge. Ali Raza was the star with the ball for Pakistan, taking 4 wickets for 42 runs in 6.2 overs.

Pakistan’s dominant performance was evident as they controlled both the bat and ball, securing the victory with ease. With this win, Pakistan U-19 showcased their strength and talent, claiming the 2025 ACC U-19 Asia Cup title in style.
